Who else loves to buy flowers for themselves, like me?
It’s been years since I moved out and started living on my own, and over time I’ve developed this sweet habit of buying flowers for myself, a small treat for my mental health.
This Sunday, I decided to take a walk around my neighborhood in Washington Heights. It’s funny how I’ve lived here for four years but never really slowed down to see its quiet beauty. The weather felt fresh, almost like peppermint that perfect early fall chill in the air. Living by the river adds an extra touch: the scent of fallen leaves and the soft moisture from last night’s rain. I love this kind of weather: chilly, calm, and alive.
Sometimes, when life feels heavy , I step outside for a break. Today, I wandered further than usual and discovered new corners of my neighborhood. Cozy coffee shops, friendly local spots, and a little flower shop just four blocks away. It was my first time there. I picked out a bouquet with red, purple, and green blooms and arranged it myself. I’m no florist, but I trust my eye. I know when flowers belong together.
Spending just 30 minutes without my phone made me feel peaceful inside and out: present, grateful, and reminded of how beautiful it feels to simply be. I love myself a little bit more today!
