Summer 2025
Over the summer, I’ve noticed a wave of content around modesty styling. Young women who typically wear skin-exposing outfits are experimenting with ways to make their closets more versatile: layering, mix-matching, and adding modest touches to create looks that feel both fresh and demure. An outfit that once felt right only for a casual hangout can suddenly be reimagined as appropriate for school or even the office, while still staying stylish and creative.

NYFW SS26
New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2026 reflects this shift, bringing these concepts to the runway. Modesty enters the conversation by transforming tailoring into a softer, more fluid expression.

Traditional power pieces like blazers, spread-collar shirts, and trousers are reinterpreted with draped fabrics, loose cuts, and fluid layering. The result moves away from overt sex appeal toward a more understated sophistication. This approach stands in contrast to the 1980s revival of big shoulders and playful textures: sequins, feathers, and bold embellishments creating a dialogue between quiet restraint and expressive glamour.

To keep modest silhouettes seasonally fresh and socially adaptable, designers turn to color as a focal point. Soft neutrals (sand, bone, mist), muted pastels (sage, lilac, butter yellow), and strategic brights (red, gold) are layered into tailored separates. These palettes balance the seriousness of suiting with light, wearable energy fit for spring and summer.
